I lost the remote again and it's somewhere in this couch

Checked the cushions. Checked under the cushions. Fine, we're watching this. — Dad, 1986

The first TV remote, in 1950, was tied to the set by a cable. You always knew where it was. In 1955 Zenith cut the cord. The new one was shaped like a gun and shot light at the corners of the screen, and on a sunny day the sun could change the channel too. Some remotes now beep when you ask the TV or a phone app where they went. The rest are in the couch.

For now: most smart TVs can be controlled from a free phone app on the same Wi-Fi.
